:Electronic Access to the Earth Through Boreholes
eContent
programme of the European Commission.
Contract No. EDC11142 eEARTH / 28771
1 What is eEarth
The eEarth system allows the user to browse borehole data held by six European geological surveys, representing the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic and Lithuania. The system incorporates a multilingual web-GIS interface, and borehole information can be displayed in seven European languages: English, Dutch, German, Polish, Czech, Lithuanian and Italian.
The new web services include:
-
A central web portal linking the national borehole
databases of the eEarth partners. Both the user interfaces to the eEarth
portal and the corresponding national applications are multilingual and can be
displayed in any of the seven eEarth languages.
-
"On-the-fly" translation facilities for standardised
geo-scientific terms,
-
GIS functionality to interrogate borehole
availability
-
On-line forms to order data and at BGS, UK, online
credit card payment functionality is also available.
-
Access to geo-data via mobile devices. Note: This service is limited to the Dutch Geological Survey (TNO-NITG, NL), British Geological Survey (BGS, UK)) and Lithuanian Geological Survey (LGT, LT).
2 Access to borehole information via eEarth
Access to the metadata information is available free of charge to all visitors. However, some national geological surveys require pre-registration in order to be able to access their detailed borehole information. For further information or questions, select the relevant contact for the national survey involved:
Please Note: Individual national surveys may levy a charge before access to their detailed information is permitted.
3 Join eEarth as a provider of borehole information and/or additional languages
-

Additional languages
The eEarth project has developed the Multilingual Geological Thesaurus Internet
Application
. The eEarth consortium invites other national organisations to provide translations of the terms used in the eEarth system. For further details of how to add your language terms, please contact Geofond (CZ):
